WORKS
Production information
“No. Me” is the first work both choreographed and danced by Cheng I-Han. In her life, she has experienced the feeling of drowning in bipolar disorder. Various emotions with unknown origins caused constant self-doubt. She had a strong resistance to facing this loneliness by herself. She thought that she could blur the fear of loneliness with the company of those around her, but found that only by directly facing loneliness can one truly live with loneliness.
In “No. Me”, I-Han uses the ocean as a vessel, placing within it the process of drowning and the fear of loneliness. Using a variety of natural sounds such as the sea, waves, and rain to create an arena, the body is transformed into the image of a ship, drifting out to sea, its route unknown. The actions of sliding, flapping, colliding, winding round and dodging show a vacillating struggle and exhausted, powerless resistance. Finally, when emotions are released, one can bravely face the black vortex in one’s heart, finding the direction towards light and continuing forward.
Throughout our lives we will coexist with different manifestations of loneliness. I-Han hopes that dance will evoke the audience’s own memories, guiding them to experience the weight that loneliness adds to oneself. "No. Me" shuttles between oneself and loneliness. A journey to be explored by oneself until the beauty and power of loneliness is clearly felt.
