About “Birdy”(8 Dancers)
The images of a cage, a supporter, and a dream are present in this piece. In thispiece with 8 dancers, we integrate the use of “Rattan Pole”, and also "Ling Zi”, along pheasant tail feather is worn as the dancers' headgear in traditional operato represent the power and skill of the warriors. While the "Ling Zi,” entwined inspace, resembling the extension of the human spine, portraying the imagery ofa bird, and the inner sense of the desire to escape reality. The rattan pole'sstrong but flexible nature turns the stage into a labyrinth as the dancertraverses through it, representing the distance and space of surviving in aconstrained life.
In Birdy (8 Dancers), we reflect and explore the relationship between societalcontext and communities, how the seemly trivial events of emotions, socialcommunications or the effects of history and war, consciously or subconsciouslyseeps fear, hatred, conflicts or peace through society.— Stretching the linebetween an individual's inner feeling, to the pull of a relationship, then to amore general context of an individual and the society, culture or the world inwhich we live.
